Buy New Books

The following is a quote from a writing blog that I read a lot. It’s operated by literary agent, Nathan Bransford. Nathan writes that the publishing industry is really taking a hit from the recession and it needs our help. I know a lot of you guys out there like to read. I know a lot of you out there would one day like to be published, like yours truly. With that in mind please read the following and visit Nathan’s blog for the full story:

“Sure, not everyone can afford books, and I understand. That’s why we have libraries. But the best way you can help the publishing industry and the authors you love is to buy their books, and to buy them new.

This isn’t a time for cheaping out on the authors you love. Publishers are going to be making very tough decisions about which authors are going to survive and which will be dropped. They’re being extremely selective about supporting new authors. You can do your part by buying new, asking for new books for the holidays, and encouraging your friends to do the same. So my 2008 holiday season campaign slogan: BUY NEW BOOKS? YES WE CAN.”

Whatever. Just go buy a book please 🙂

Buying new books is actually a weakness of mine, so I’m right there with you. Yes we can!(gag, aaack) Nope, can’t use that slogan for anything. Sorry.

Really? I always buy used. I LOVE it when there’s actually an inscription in it. And yeah, I gagged too. But just to be clear, it was Nathan’s quote, not mine. He lives in San Francisco, after all. 🙂

I love books…new, used, whatever. I always try to get the kids at least one new book each Christmas. That will be seven new books…think that will help? 🙂

Wow, KM, uh, yeah, seven should be plenty…Yikes!

Ok, you are now my new best friend for linking to a literary agent’s blog. It has thusly been added to my bloglines. A girl can dream about publishing a novel, right? And orders to buy new books? No problem! I can definitely do that – heck, I just ordered 5 books from Amazon this week!

Christina. YOU ROCK! And yeah, dreaming is about all I do as far as publishing goes. Of course, it would help if I actually tried to get the book published. Maybe we should all share tidbits of our work? I’m just sayin’. 🙂
