Wanna help a little orphan?

Vietnamese orphans

Thousands of families (including us!) have been in the process of adopting a child from Vietnam for as long as 2 years. Please help us complete our adoptions and give a child an opportunity to be raised in a family environment.

The link to the iPetition below is to ask the Dept of State and the USCIS to request Vietnam to allow all dossiers submitted by July 1,2008 to be “grand fathered” by allowing these families to receive a child referral even after Sept 1. As it is now, any family not having a referral by 1 September (This will include us and about 3,000 other families) will have their paperwork sent back to them. That means all the time, money, and effort we spent getting everything squared away for this adoption will be wasted. For us, and many others, it’s the end of the road.

It’s the end of the road for about 3,000 orphans in Vietnam, too. If we are not grandfathered in, these children will remain in orphanages, never to have a family, never to have the opportunities in life they were meant to have.

Vietnam has indicated that it is agreeable to this request IF the Dept of State and USCIS agencies will state that they will honor this change by continuing to approve qualified I-600 (orphan petition) and I-234 (visa) applications for families matched after September 1st. Vietnam will waive the September 1 requirement for the remaining dossiers, if asked to do so by the Dept of State and USCIS.

We have very few options in this particular case. Signing a petition might be our only hope. Please help us and the orphans by going to the link below:

As of this post, there are 2003 signatures (click signatures on the iPetition page to check the number of signers). (As of 3:00 today, there are 2628. You GUYS ROCK!!)

Note: No donation is required. If you see the donation request page come up (this is for iPetition, not the orphans), don’t worry about it–your petition has already been counted. Many many thanks in advance for your support!

Thanks for posting this! I’m still hoping that you receive your referral from VN!

Thanks, Jill. I try not to hope, but it would be great if we got our referral…really great.
